On January 25th, 2011, a group of activists in Cairo organized a protest to coincide with Police Day, a national holiday in Egypt. The protest, which was originally intended to be small, quickly grew in size and became a massive demonstration against the government.

The protesters, who were mainly young and politically aware, demanded an end to corruption, poverty, and repression in Egypt. They also called for the resignation of President Mubarak and the implementation of political and economic reforms.
